Researchers at La Trobe University have created Vesiclepedia, a web-based compendium of RNA, proteins, lipids and metabolites that are identified in EVs from both published and unpublished studies. Currently, Vesiclepedia contains data obtained from 1254 EV studies, 38 146 RNA entries, 349 988 protein entries and 639 lipid/metabolite entries.
Acts by binding to the C8 and/or C9 complements of the assembling MAC, thereby preventing incorporation of the multiple copies of C9 required for complete formation of the osmolytic pore. In multicellular organisms, microvesicles and other EVs are found both in tissues (in the interstitial space between cells) and in many types of body fluids. Delimited by a phospholipid bilayer, microvesicles can be as small as the smallest EVs (30 nm in diameter) or Vesiclepedia is a a manually curated compendium of molecular data (lipid, RNA and protein) identified in different classes of EVs. Recent studies have ignited significant interest on EVs by elucidating their role in intercellular communication,
Even though databases are indispensable resources for the scientific community, recent studies have shown that more than 50% of the databases are not updated for a long time. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are widely recognized as the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Despite the advances in clinical management over the past decades, the underlying pathological mechanisms remain largely unknown. Exosomes have drawn the attention of researchers for their relevance in intercellular communication under both physiological and pathological conditions.
